Steve, Elba and Camilly Dolan

Our school / community center, CDR, is doing really well this year. The computer program continues to do well and we have 93 students learning how to use a computer this semester. Our first graduated class had 80 students successfully complete the program. We also have 53 students learning English this semester.

Before coming to Altamira I would never have realized how important it is to know English. But you would be amazed how much English is used here, especially in medicine, travel industry and technology (internet). So to have the skills to understand and speak English are a huge plus not only for day to day living, but also for job opportunities.

We are starting a new test pilot program for reading and writing. Illiteracy is a big problem here and so this program could be very beneficial to the community.

Please keep this in your prayer, as well as the school.

As Pastors of the church we are always being asked to help people through such things as, cooping through difficult situations, mediating couple’s disputes, or just lending a shoulder to cry on. These were the things that I expected, but what I did not expect was the amount of time and interest people have in getting financial counseling. To be honest, I was thinking “why would you need financial counseling if you are living hand to mouth”.

But as we started counseling many new things started to come to light about why some people are living hand to mouth. For example, some have so much debt because of high interest store purchases, others are impulse shoppers, people get caught up in buy now - pay later, and others just don’t know how to setup a monthly budget.

Since starting this counseling, many people have become completely debt free and have escaped the strangle hold of consumer debt. They do not worry each day about how they are going to put food on their table. Actually, many have been faithfully tithing to the church and God has been blessing them so much.

Camilly is doing great. She had her first birthday party on April 18th. It was a lot of fun and I am sure that she will remember it all of her life. LOL. Well, if she does not, we certainly will.

It was fun and of course we had the opportunity to get the classic photos that every parent loves of their baby trying to eat cake for the first time. Our friend Daisy, made the cake, to which we were all so impressed.

Camilly is basically non-stop.  Elba and I were wondering who she got that personality trait from and that question was answered when we talked to Elba’s Mom.  I guess Elba was also non-stop and for this reason they used to call Elba “Little Cockroach”.

So remember, the next time you see Elba in the states please feel free to call her by her new rediscovered nickname.

On a great note, we are almost financially there with getting back to the states. We are feeling very confident that we will be back to the States and so we have made reservations to leave here June 28th to arrive in Columbus on the 29th. We are so excited to come home.

Thanks again for everything, and we look forward to seeing you soon. Love, Steve, Elba and Camilly
